Crashed Dakota

Well last Thursday I was driving home when an old man cut right in front of me. I tried to stop but didn't have the time and hit my passenger front into his passenger rear. My air bag went off and it pushed my radiator within 1" of my engine. I had always wondered what it felt like to have an airbag go off, guess I don't need to wonder anymore. But there is a silver lining to this crappy story and I thank his insurance for it. They valued my '95 Dodge Dakota for full retail trade in and I will be getting just under $3000 and I paid no where near that two and a half years ago for it so I am very happy.

Did Some Training Today

Did some asbestos training today and was laughing my ass off when I saw the pic below. I had no idea they did things like this back then. They even used it for movies like The Wizard Of Oz and It's a Wonderful Life. Pretty scary thinking what are we using today that will be tomorrows asbestos.

New Job For Me

Well I start a new job on Tuesday the 18th. It is going to be limiting my internet time to nights after work as I won't be sitting on my ass in front of a computer as I have the past 4+ years. I'm not going into where I am going but I will say it has a lot more opportunity for advancement, more pay in the long run, benefits (retirement, health etc.) and a lot more security than where I was. I will definitely  be keeping the blog going but instead of being able to update several times a day as I have from time to time it will be once at night.

1973 Airens Snow Thrower

So a buddy asked me to get his fathers old snow thrower going the other day. It was bought by him in '73 and my friend has had it for about 10 years and has never started it. I pulled the carb off cleaned it, cleaned the plug, checked for spark....... WTF no spark...... Dammit. So much for this being an easy fix. Take the pull start off and the flywheel. Points look brand new, test for continuity is good. Clean the points, magnets and contacts, cross fingers, put flywheel back on hit starter button, we have spark! Put it all back together, add gas and it starts first touch of the button, NICE.

CB750 Frame

Well it's about done. All that is left is to put the girder and tires on to make it a roller then figure out where the last two cross braces are going for the rear fender supports. I will be working on this a lot more than the past months because my wife has asked if we can finish it for her charity ride at about the end of May. I think I will be able to do it but it will be a lot of hours in the shop. Keep an eye open for more updates.

Customers Stocker

Had a guy call me and said he just bought a 1983 Honda Shadow 750 for $300. Was wondering if I could go through it and get it running. He dropped it off on Saturday and after I finished getting a snow thrower carb cleaned for another person I went to town on the Honda. Emptied the varnish that used to be gasoline from the tank, poured some BB's in after it dried to get the hard shit out and ran new fuel lines, cleaned the plugs, cleaned the carbs (new bowl gaskets) and checked the oil which looked nice and clean.Tried to charge the battery but it has a dead cell so I jumped it and Vrroomm she started right up. His bars were kinda screwed up as the bike has been dropped at one or more points in it's life but I had a nice set hanging on the wall that matched exactly (yeah they were probably your's Mike, HAHAHA). So I sold him them and will install this week for him to pickup on Saturday.

New Toy In The Garage

I know so what it's just a grinder. But I have been using my air grinder for so long that it feels great to have limitless power, no waiting for my undersized compressor to catch up. And it has been put to good use this weekend on the CB750, pics later today. My next purchase is going to be a reciprocating saw to get away from my air cutting wheel.

Inspiration

I don't know about you guys but in my mind, this bike is friggin' cool.

Working on the CB750

Well I finally got my lazy ass out in the garage and started some grinding and cutting tabs off my wife's CB750. I will be back out there tonight to try and get the rest of the grinding done. I still have 3 cross braces to weld in, I will do one right off and the other 2 after I mock up with the forks and rear tire on so I can figure where the fender support/cross braces are going to wind up. Here's an old pic for now, I will have new ones in the coming days.
