Working In The Garage

Finally got some time to clean the garage and rearrange it. Since Onespeed has his own garage I have lots of room. I cleaned up and moved some racks and my tool boxes around to the other side of the garage. I also went through some boxes of misc. shit and sorted it all out so now I have a better idea of what I have. This also gives me the room I needed to at least get 75% of a car into the garage, until it hits the motorcycle table, to work on a flat concrete floor instead of the dirt driveway. And it was tried out right away because I had to fix some rust under the Honda for inspection.

Well seeing as how we already had half a foot I figured I better get my snow thrower ready. While I was at it I dug out my Kero heater and winterized the camper. Still have more to do but I am getting closer to being ready for snow. And if you are ever looking for a cheap way to heat a garage you should get one of these kero heaters. I bought mine used for $10 off Craigslist and it puts out 23,000 BTU. On a below freezing day you can be out in my uninsulated garage with a light long sleeve on.

School is officially OVER!!!! Passed my Trig and Operations Management classes and I am done with night school for my work. Despite the math teachers lack of English skills I managed to pass with my lowest grade in my last four maths but passed, an 84, in case you were wondering. Not really a big deal because it goes down as pass or fail not a number grade for my work. So enough about this let's get building. And I have restarted my wife's CB 750 that is loooooooooooonnnnnngggg over due. Although she has asked about it she has been really good not getting on me too bad and I want to complete it for her so I will be busting on it this weekend look for pics.

Well my Wife's quilt shop hasn't been doing much business so we sold off the machine and closed the doors. This left us with a 12'X20' finished room that used to be our other garage. So what better way to use it than to bring the pool table up from the unfinished cellar and get out all my brew/nascar/motorcycle signs and collectables and make a game room. I even put up the dart board and painted a shot line right on the carpet. All that is needed now is a mini fridge and flat screen TV and were good.

So much for doing anything around the house... work decided to "force" me on to second shift for six weeks. I now work from 3pm to 1:30am.... oh yeah did I mention I am still on mandatory six 10's too. So I now get to work on Friday AND Saturday nights WOOOHOOO. I get to work every day of the week too seeing as how I will be working till 1:30 Sunday morning and have to be in at 3pm on Monday. Hopefully this will be over soon I don't know how long I'll last with 4 hours sleep every night.

Man it feels like this summer went flying by faster than any other. I have been on mandatory six ten hour days since the second week of June, it's getting old. I have done nothing in the garage at all, it's all I can do to keep the lawn mowed and cars running somewhat. I have managed to get all three days off this weekend and am hoping to get some time doing something in the garage, even if it is rearranging it after NHMike moved his stuff out. Anyway thanks for still following my blog even though I have been slacking and I will start updating more.

So my work requires you to go to school every six weeks for 10 days to take college like classes. I only have the session I am in and one more and I am done but I am burnt out. They change your hours so you go in at noon and get home about 9pm, totally fucking up your family routine. Never mind my lack of wanting to work in the garage. I mean shit I get home and everyone is going to bed in an hour, I get up and they are going to work. Never mind that my class starts at lunch time and my break for dinner is at 4pm, about 2 hours earlier than I would normally eat, so my stomach is a mess. I know suck it up and I will but I just had to vent.

Sorry for the delay in posting but I was a busy boy on Sunday. This is what I was facing for work.

The closest was the S40 that needed the decompression relay replaced, the next one was going to have the fuel pump bypassed and the Honda car needed some rust over the driver's side wheel well fixed.

Well I got the rust fixed, the S40 running and the fuel pump bypassed. The only thing is now the Intruder is idling uncontrollably high, so I have to figure that one out. Possible vacuum leak?!?!

Well I have been getting into archery since my son and wife are, I usually only like things that shoot bullets, but it is fun and something I am able to do with them in the back yard, within city limits, and the popo don't come a-visitin'. Anyway I have been meaning to post this, I got it a few weeks back for Fathers Day. It's a Greatree Osprey recurve, I wanted a bare bones, no sights, non-compound bow and this thing is perfect. Thanks to my Wife and Son for the great present.

Well the run was this past Saturday and I wanted to thank everyone that showed up for the perfect ride to Conway on Rt. 153, over the Kanc, to Merideth on Rt 175 and back to the Hawg's Pen on Rt. 11 in Farmington. Thanks to the Infamous Hawgs Pen for the breakfast and great band he had going for us too. And here's some pics for the slackers who sat on their sofas instead of going on a nice ride so you can see what you missed on our 160 mile trip.

Yup never thought I would put those two words together but there they are. I have never liked soccer but my son wanted to play so here I am. He is only 6 and this is the first year playing but you would think he's been doing it for a while. He has played the whole field but I think defense is his calling. He is the only one that plays his position and doesn't chase the ball to the other end of the field.

Mini Chopper Is Fixed

Well the Chinese chopper wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The pull start was unwound, I tried to undo the screw to take it apart and it was rotted in so I drilled it out and retapped it. Come to find out the spring was rusted and broken in three pieces, luckily I had one off an old weed wacker. Next the piece on the engine that is supposed to flop out so the pullstart can spin the engine was corroded. I took it off and guess what, the spring was broke in 2 pieces, so I made one up with an old spring I had. Emptied the gas, cleaned the carb and it started 1st pull, well I'll be. We stripped the plastic engine out so he can repaint it and he took it for a test ride and brought it home in the trunk. HAHAHAHA

If I don't at least check it twice a day I am lost. It's run by a real good guy and a small group of mods. There are some great chops on it and the members are able to help with ANY problems you are having with anything mechanical. I have asked for help with everything from a moped, to motorcycles, to my Dodge truck and someone always had either an answer or great suggestions on where to start. Sunday Project

As most of you that follow my blog know, it's not all about motorcycles. As the heading states I like working on anything with a motor (except cars, I hate cars! but I do it). This Sunday it was time to start working on one of the mowers (I have 3) that I got from Craigslist for free. I like to do as many others do and fix if I can and resell for a small profit. If they are truly junk I part them for later use. I wanted to do this Craftsman I got first, because I want this for myself to do the tight spots around the house I can't get with the rider. Did all the typical things, check for compression, spark, cleaned the plug and carb, dumped the old gas and fixed the pull cord assembly. I really think that is the number one reason people give up on mowers is the pull cord. The rope comes out and they can't figure out how to fix the retracting spring so they get a new mower. Works out great for me because it is such an easy fix and another $50 in my pocket when the mower sells, which where I live when I put one out front it lasts maybe 4 hours tops. Anyway here's my new/old/free mower.

She did the lining (I helped) and I did the paint, it's a white pearl lace with red candy over top, not half bad considering my painting skills. HAHAHAHA

The Intruder

So a friend of a friend dropped a '94 Suzuki Intruder 1400 about OHHHHH about 3 months ago. HAHAHAHA He knew when he did it was to cold in the garage for me to get right to it, and he and his wife had other bikes to ride when the weather did change so at least there wasn't a lot of pressure, just when I get to it. He inherited it from his Father when he died and it hasn't run for more than a few seconds in about 7 years. He had tried changing out the fuel pump, plugs, carbs cleaned, etc. I got into it and started by cleaning the carbs to make sure the last guy did it. It first needed a battery then the starter wouldn't turn. Found out it was the solenoid, bought one, then found out it had no fuel. Traced it to the fuel pump relay, bought one, it fired up. Went to put it in first, jumped and died, no clutch. It was hydraulic and the reservoir was dry from sitting for all those years. Took a little work pumping the clutch and shifting to get the plates freed up. After a couple rides it was running great, called and he came to get it. He seemed really happy to finally have his Dad's bike up and running and here's hoping he gets to put plenty of miles on it. I didn't get a pic of it but here is a close match minus the bags.

Got around to putting some tread on the Wife's bike so I can figure out the last couple of cross braces. While it was together I had to put a seat, tank and the old Z bars off my bike on it...... man it's long looking. I sat on it and the ride height is perfect so I had my Wife try and she liked it too.

Yard Work Saturday

Well got up this morning and went to work in the yard. Got everything cleaned up, raked, restacked the fire wood, and my wife planted flowers and some plants. Looks good so far. Next a buddy is coming over to spray a lawn for us, can't wait, no seeding or fertilizing to do this year, Woohoo.

Finally Work On A Bike

The Sporty got the new wheel on it that was mentioned below. Then we lowered the rear fender so it didn't stick up in the air. Looks good nice and low and the new front really makes a difference. Next is to get the white wall I have onto the Fatboy rim and put it on the back of the bike.

Swap Meet

Went to the motorcycle swap meet in Concord, NH this morning. Wasn't as good as last year but it still wasn't bad. Got a 21" narrow glide with twisted spokes with really good rubber for the Sporty for $45, a little rusty but not too bad (Thanks for spotting me the $ Mike). And Mike got a nice blue dot small headlight for $20. Mostly new leather and Custom Chrome vendors but there were still some with the old greasy parts we all like.

Damn it I hate that I have spent more time working on our cars and my buddies cars this past two months than even touching a bike. This past weekend it was a headlight and exhaust leak on my wife's Honda Accord and some sort of sensor on my buddies daughters Saturn for the transmission. I don't think Saturn could have found a more impossible spot to hide the fucking thing if they put it on the moon. It was on the firewall side under the intakes in the middle of the engine. Lotsa fun! Anyway we got it done and guess what, the next day the check engine light comes back on with the same code WTF!?!? I hate working on cars! But I do it because there is one thing I hate more............ paying someone else to do it for me!

Well I actually got out into the shop and shed and switched some shit out and cleaned. I brought my riding snowthrower/lawnmower out back and got rid of the rest of the snow in front of the shed. I did get a call from a customer that wants me to fix one of his bikes and when I finish it he just bought another one just like it, both Shadow 750's, and I have to fix that one up too. Plus I have the Intruder that was delivered to me about 2 weeks ago that needs work. And oh yeah I still have the my wife's Honda CB750 to do also. I WILL be getting out there this week if for nothing more than to clean up the pigsty so I can do work when I am ready.

Man I just got on to check my blog and realized I haven't posted in a while. It has been snowing since Friday morning and it's now Sunday night, friggin' ridiculous. I want warm weather and I want it fast. So until then I'm slacking on the CB750 of my Wife's in the garage, plus the garage is a disaster area and I need to clean it before I am able to do anything. But if we get the warmup we are supposed to with some rain it might feel tropical...... well at least 40 degrees.

The greasebag is now going to be a 2-day, Sat-Sun event.Saturday: Ride New England backroads from MA to NH. Camp. Drink. Terrorize the locals. Pass out.
Sunday: Ride to Acme Choppers in Laconia for the bike show and party. Eat, drink, get stupid.

The greasebag is no longer during bike week.
Yeah, we’re done with that shit. The last weekend in July will be the new date for the greasebag moving forward. Better weather, less douchery. Win-win for us. No traffic, no overpriced everything. Plenty of killer roads to ride and less bro-dudes to deal with.

Admission is still free. We’re hoping to do a few new things for the people this year, but it’s too early to talk about.

She can be a bitch. I guess my previous post pissed her off as we are supposed to be getting 8 to 14 inches of snow today on top of the 4 we got yesterday. So I will continue to keep dreaming of summer. The good news is no work today so I will stay home and play.
